What Is Neem Oil
Neem oil comes from the seeds and fruits of the Azadirachta indica tree. The color varies from golden yellow, yellow-brown, bright red, reddish-brown, greenish-brown, to dark brown. It has an unpleasant odor and a bitter taste.
The beneficial agents in neem oil are triglycerides, triterpenoid compounds, antioxidants, vitamin C, beta-carotene, and several sterols. Azadirachtin and Nimbin are the best-known triterpenoid compounds in neem oil and give it many of its beneficial properties.
The oil is cold pressed from seeds or removed through a controlled warm-press process. A solvent extraction yields the same result. If youre purchasing oil for use on humans or pets, pressed oil is best, since you want to avoid solvent residues.
Hplc Analyses And Chromatographic Separation Of Nimonol
The HPLC diagram of the highly active organic extract showed ten well defined chromatographic peaks . These peaks were eluted at different retention time . The first peak was eluted after 9 min. and contained three Azadirachtins at ratios of 7%, 5% and 8%, respectively. The third peak was evident at rt of 22 min and contained the azadirachtins A, B, D, H and I at ratios of 11%, 10%, 4%, 9%, and 7%, respectively. The 4th Peak was eluted after 34 min and was identified as 6 de-acetyl nimbin of 39 % purity. The peaks no. 2 and 5 yielded very small amounts of non-pure material and were not enough for accurate identification. Peak no. 6 was eluted at 54 min and contained mainly the azadiradione whereas at 63 min, peak no. 7 was eluted and contained the nimonol with the highest purity level , followed by peak no. 8 at 68.6 min which contained the epoxyazadiradione as a major constituent . The last two peaks were eluted after 76 and 90 min, respectively and contained also small amounts of non-pure materials especially the last one which seems containing at least three components .
You Can Use It To Control Insects At All Stages Of Development
Neem oil kills insects at all stages of development adult, larvae and egg. The active chemical in neem oil, azadirachtin, gets rid of insects in a few different ways:
- As an antifeedant
Azadirachtin will force the insect or pest to stop eating the leaves.
When insects come into contact with neem oil, it also prevents the bug from transforming into its next stage of development by disrupting regulatory hormones.

Toenail Fungus: Causes And Risk Factors
Toenail fungus is a fungal infection in the toenail. It happens when a fungus anything from mold to yeast to other types of fungus gets in the nail bed from a cut or break in the nail or repetitive trauma to the nail, and penetrates the nail itself, says Dr. Sundling. The nail then continues to grow with the fungus. Once a nail plate is infected with fungus, it will never not be infected, and you must wait to see how it grows out and whether the new nail growing behind it is healthy. The new nail rarely grows in healthy without treatment, says Sundling.
Toenail fungus is very common 14 percent of people have it in North America, according to an article published in the journal PLoS Pathogens and its more common the older you get, adds Sundling. Wearing shoes that are too small can damage the nail and make it more vulnerable to fungus, as can having a fungal infection on the skin of the foot and not treating it, which could expose the nail to fungus. You may be more at risk to toenail fungus if you have diabetes, or a weaker immune system.

Neem Leaves For Treating Toenail Fungus: Uses Benefits & Side Effects
Toenail fungus can be an ugly and embarrassing sight. The infection slowly starts with mild discolouration and then it makes the nail thicker, separating it from the nail bed.
The skin around the toenail gets rough, thick and swollen sometimes. When you detect such signs, understand that its a toenail fungus infection.

The worst part is that it takes a lot of time and patience. If you or your loved ones have experienced this nail condition, you must know how difficult it is to wait to get rid of this nasty and discoloured fungus.
Natural Ways To Get Rid Of Toenail Fungus
One of the most dreaded and, lets face it, a disgusting ailment is toenail fungus . As most who read my blogs know, I usually write about topics that I have experienced personally and/or observed in patients. Well, for this one, it is both. For years, one of my toes would become afflicted, Id treat it, and then a year or two later, it would return.
The truth is that fungus is among us! You may view yourself as one with good hygiene, but even you are loaded with fungus on your skin. Fungus does not need much to overgrow and is exceedingly difficult to get rid of when it does. The three changes in our local skin environment that cause it to grow are 1. A decrease in good bacteria , since bacteria can suppress its growth 2. Excessive water/moisture 3. Sugar.
But to get fungus on your nail, a few things must happen. Diabetics, because of elevated sugar, are at higher risk. However, many, like myself, who dont have diabetes, are still prime targets. Thats because of what I call the blotter effect. To understand this effect, imagine the following scenario. You are sitting behind a wooden desk with a glass blotter on top to protect the surface. You place a cup of water on the blotter and turn to work on your computer. As you turn, your elbow knocks over youre cup, and the water spills over the edge of the desk. You then see some water track itself under the blotter.
The following natural approaches will work whether you have taken a medication or not .

Tea Tree Oil For Toenail Fungus
Tea tree oil is unlikely to fully cure a well-established toenail fungus infection, since the infection tends to be based in the nail matrix, or root, underneath the nail fold , Krant says. But prescription drugs for toenail fungus are not always effective. Topical prescription creams and liquids work about 10 to 15 percent of the time when used over many months on true toenail fungus, says Krant.
Tea tree oil may have a similar rate of effectiveness: A study published in the Journal of Family Practice in 1994 comparing tea tree oil with clotrimazole, a common antifungal medication, found that the two treatments were almost equally successful in treating the condition.

Tea Tree Oil For Athlete’s Foot
Tea tree oil may be effective for milder cases of athlete’s foot, says Jessica J. Krant, M.D., M.P.H., clinical assistant professor of dermatology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., and a member of Consumer Reports medical advisory board. Thats because it is known to be antiseptic, mildly antifungal, and mildly antibacterial, she says.
In fact, a study published in the Australasian Journal of Dermatology in 2002 found that twice-daily use of a 25 or 50 percent tea tree solution for four weeks cleared up athletes foot for more than half the people who used italthough nearly four percent of study participants who used the tea tree oil solution also developed an itchy rash.
While these results seem encouraging, theres no guarantee that consumers will get the same results from the tea tree oil products they buy. Thats because study researchers use ingredients that are purified and analyzed to ensure that they contain exact concentrations of high-quality tea tree oil. But tea tree oil products arent regulated in the way that medications are, so theres no way to be sure that a product from the drugstore contains the ingredients that will have the desired effect, says Krant.
Its also important to note that other studies have found tea tree oil to be less effective at treating athletes foot than over-the-counter antifungal medications such as tolnaftate .
How Can Neem Leaves Treat Toenail Fungus
In a research conducted recently, scientists explained how Neem Leaves contain some calcium and minerals that can strengthen the immune system and bones too.
Its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and antifungal properties can fight any skin or nail infection. Its properties are explained below:
Neem leaves are extremely bitter but when consumed in the form of medicine, they help regulate the natural functioning of the immune system.
This strengthens your immunity and your body can defeat the fungi on its own.
Neem leaves extract has anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce the swelling, soreness and redness of the skin and nail bed.
This property makes Neem leaves the best of all. It prevents scarring and takes care that itching and swelling do not take forms of ulcer.
These leaves prevent any bacteria from entering the skin and disturbing the nail and skins natural pH. Bacteria could make the condition worse and Neem can solve this easily.
This property of Neem Leaves can help your nail grow better naturally. It also benefits the skin around the toenail as it produces collagen.
The topical application and oral consumption of neem leaves or juice can destroy the fungus as the area they thrive in will no longer remain their breeding ground.
